FAQ

WHO IS THE COMPETITION INTENDED FOR?

The competition participants may be students or graduates architecture, urban development, landscape and garden architecture study branches, as well as self-taught people educated in the branch, whose age has not exceeded 33 years as of the closing deadline for submission of competition works.

DOES IT MEAN THAT I MAY EVEN BE A HIGH/SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENT?

Yes, any person whose age does not exceed 33 years as of the closing date may participate. If you are younger than 18 years old, your Affirmation must be signed by your legal guardian.

DOES THE AGE LIMIT OF 33 YEARS APPLY ALSO TO THE SUBMITTER?

It is the age of the contest design author(s) which is relevant for the participation in the contest review.

I DO NOT STUDY THE ARCHITECTURE STUDY BRANCH, BUT LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE. MAY I ALSO APPLY FOR PARTICIPATION?

Yes, you may apply. However, it will be preferable if you submit a study (design, thesis) related to a construction. Nevertheless, it is not a precondition.

HOW CAN I APPLY FOR PARTICIPATION?

It is very simple. It is sufficient for you to download the Application Form, the Affirmation, to pay the fee and bring or send your designs to the secretary of the competition.

CAN I SUBMIT MULTIPLE DESIGNS?

Yes, you may submit multiple designs in the same category or multiple categories. However, you must provide all documents for each of these projects and pay a fee corresponding to the actual number of designs. After submitting the application, we will provide you with the payment details.

WHAT IF THE DESIGN IS A JOINT WORK OF TWO AUTHORS?

Then the design authors will fill in a single application form, state both of them as authors and send us their design only once.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A STUDY AND A SCHOOL WORK?

Whereas school works are made in the framework of school studies under a professional supervision of an atelier head, studies are made by the author as an extracurricular activity.

HOW CAN I OBTAIN THE VARIABLE CODE FOR THE PAYMENT OF THE FEE?

After receiving your application, necessary information will be sent to the e-mail address stated in the application. The payment may also be effected in cash with the competition secretary.

HOW SHALL I LABEL MY DESIGN?

All the parts of the contest designs (application, document confirming the payment of the fee, consent of the author and of the owner of the construction for the implementations category, the digital part, the printed presentation) will be labelled with the author’s name and will be inserted into an envelope with the caption: “Young Architect Award 2010 – Implementation”, “Young Architect Award 2010 – School Work”, or “Young Architect Award 2010 – Study”.

HOW ARE THE DESIGNS ASSESSED?

Each design will be assessed individually. Nevertheless, the main criteria will be (with no order of significance) the quality of the architectural/urban development design (layout and functional designs, including the interior, urban development study of the location selected in the context of the entire area, relationship to the environment and pre existing development, appropriateness of the use of materials, technologies and structures).

WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS CONCERNING A WRITTEN CONSENT OF THE AUTHORS, THE INVESTOR, AND THE CONSTRUCTION OWNER?

It is not necessary to furnish a written consent of the investor or construction owner together with the application and the affirmation on copyright to the work submitted. However, the submitter must be able to provide this written consent on request.

Why did you accept the offer to become a YAA Jury member?

roman brychtaI got myself familiar with the last year’s results and I was pleasantly surprised. Competitions have an important place in my life and I am sincerely pleased that opportunities for commissions are offered also to young architects through competitions. Works by young authors are characteristic in that they bring new, refreshing opinions and solutions. And I like being refreshed.
